Hokuma Abbas gizi Gurbanova (Azerbaijani: Hökümə Abbas qızı Qurbanova) was a famous actress from Azerbaijan. She was known for her work in both theatre and film. She was even named a "People's Artist of the USSR" in 1965, which is a very high honor for artists.
Life and Career
Hokuma Gurbanova was born in Baku, Azerbaijan, on May 29, 1913.
She finished a teaching college in Baku in 1931. After that, she studied piano for a year at the Baku Academy of Music.
Hokuma Gurbanova started her acting career in 1933. She got her first role in the film Almas. The writer, Jafar Jabbarly, chose her himself.
From 1938, she became a main actress at the Azerbaijan State Academic National Drama Theatre. She played many different types of characters there. She was a member of the Union of Cinematographers of the Azerbaijan SSR. This meant she was part of a group for people who made movies.
Hokuma Gurbanova passed away on November 2, 1988, in Baku. She was buried in a special place called the Alley of Honor.
Hokuma Gurbanova was married twice. She had a daughter named Naila with her first husband, actor Alasgar Alakbarov. Later, she had another daughter, Vafa, with her second husband, Nusrat Fatullayev. Vafa also became an actress.
