Holdman is a small, quiet place in Umatilla County, Oregon, in the United States. It's called an "unincorporated community." This means it's a group of homes and buildings that isn't officially a city or town with its own local government.
Holdman is located about 17.5 miles (28.2 km) northwest of Pendleton. It's also about 12.5 miles (20.1 km) east of Hermiston. You can find it where County Road 800 meets the Pendleton-Cold Springs Highway.
Holdman's Beginnings
The community of Holdman was named after the Holdman brothers. They were some of the very first people to settle in this area. A post office was opened in Holdman in the year 1900.
Life in Early Holdman
In 1915, Holdman was a very small community. It had a population of only 25 people. At that time, there was a United Brethren church and a schoolhouse. The old schoolhouse is still standing today in 2024.
Part of a Larger Area
Holdman is considered part of the Pendleton–Hermiston Micropolitan Statistical Area. This is a way to describe a region that includes a city and its nearby communities, often connected by jobs and daily life.
