Hollis Thompson (born April 3, 1991) is an American professional basketball player. He currently plays for Al-Nasr Benghazi in the Libyan Division I Basketball League. Before playing overseas, he spent time in the NBA with the Philadelphia 76ers and New Orleans Pelicans. He played a total of 265 games in the NBA.

Early Life and High School Basketball
Hollis Thompson grew up in Pasadena, California. He went to Loyola High School in Los Angeles. During his junior year in 2007–08, he was a star player. He scored about 18.6 points and grabbed 9 rebounds per game. He was also named the most valuable player in his league.
Experts at Rivals.com thought Thompson was a top player. In 2009, they ranked him as the 12th best small forward. He was also the 63rd best player overall in the country.
College Career at Georgetown
In January 2009, Thompson started at Georgetown University. He joined the basketball team and practiced with them. He played for Georgetown for three seasons.
During his time at Georgetown, Thompson averaged 8.7 points per game. He also grabbed 4.1 rebounds and made 1.1 assists. He set a school record for three-point shooting. He made 44.0% of his three-point shots. In his last season (2011–12), he was honored for his great play. He averaged 12.8 points per game. He scored ten or more points in 25 games that season.
Professional Basketball Journey
Starting with the Tulsa 66ers (2012–2013)
After college, Hollis Thompson was not chosen in the 2012 NBA draft. But he still got a chance to play professionally. In July 2012, he signed with the Oklahoma City Thunder. He played in a few preseason games. Later, he joined the Tulsa 66ers. This team was part of the NBA Development League. In 51 games for Tulsa, he averaged 8.0 points and 3.9 rebounds.
Playing for the Philadelphia 76ers (2013–2017)
In July 2013, Thompson played for the San Antonio Spurs in the 2013 NBA Summer League. Soon after, he signed with the Philadelphia 76ers in September 2013. He quickly became an important player for the 76ers. He was known for his strong defense and his ability to shoot three-pointers.
He became a starter at small forward during his first season. On April 5, he scored a career-high 18 points. He made six three-pointers in that game. He finished his first season as the best rookie in three-point shooting. He made 40.1% of his shots from long range.
In July 2014, Thompson helped the 76ers win the Orlando Summer League championship. He continued to play well. On December 13, 2014, he tied his career high with 21 points. On February 3, 2015, he set a new career high with 23 points.
During the 2015–16 season, Thompson was a key player on offense. He was also a good defender. Even though his shooting numbers dropped a little, he was still the team's best long-range shooter. He averaged career highs in points (9.8) and rebounds (3.5) per game. On April 13, 2016, he scored a season-high 21 points. The 76ers kept Thompson for the 2016–17 season. On January 4, 2017, he left the team. He is currently 6th all-time in 76ers history for three-point shooting percentage (38.9%).
Time with Austin and New Orleans (2017)
After leaving the 76ers, Thompson joined the Windy City Bulls in January 2017. The next day, he was traded to the Austin Spurs. On February 23, 2017, Thompson signed a short contract with the New Orleans Pelicans. He signed a second short contract in March. After these contracts ended, he returned to the Austin Spurs. He averaged 14.4 points per game for Austin. He made 44% of his three-point shots.
Playing Overseas (2017–Present)
On August 10, 2017, Thompson signed a one-year contract with Olympiacos, a team in Greece. He played there until May 2018.
Later, he returned to the NBA G League. On December 17, 2018, he joined the Northern Arizona Suns. He played well, averaging 16.6 points and 6.3 rebounds per game. He also made 35% of his three-point shots.
In April 2019, Thompson signed with Crailsheim Merlins, a team in Germany. In October 2019, he signed with the Sacramento Kings for training camp. He then joined their G League team, the Stockton Kings.
More recently, he has played for Al-Ahli Jeddah in Saudi Arabia (2022–2023). Since 2024, he has been playing for Al-Nasr Benghazi in Libya.
