Her Creative Career

Holly Hobbie is famous for her children's books, especially the Toot & Puddle series. She also created the well-loved character that shares her name.

The Holly Hobbie Character

In the late 1960s, Holly Hobbie began selling her unique artwork. This art featured a sweet little girl who loved cats. The girl wore a simple rag dress and a very large bonnet, which is a type of hat that ties under the chin.

Her artwork was inspired by her own children and showed a cozy, old-fashioned style from New England. This style became very popular. The character was first called "blue girl" but later became known as Holly Hobbie. American Greetings in Cleveland, Ohio helped make the character famous.
