School History
Hollyfield School first opened in 1937. Back then, it was called Surbiton Central School. It was a secondary school for both boys and girls. The school was located on Hollyfield Road in Surbiton.
In 1960, its name changed to Hollyfield County Secondary School. Later, it became simply Hollyfield School. In 1966, the school moved to its current location. This new site on Surbiton Hill Road used buildings that were once part of Surbiton County Grammar School. Over time, new buildings were added to make the school bigger.
In 1987, there was a plan to close Hollyfield School. The idea was to use the buildings as a college for older students. However, this plan was not approved, and the school stayed open. In 1995, parents voted for Hollyfield to become a grant-maintained school. This meant the school got money directly from the government. It also had more control over its own budget.
Becoming a Technology College and Academy
In September 2003, Hollyfield School gained a special status. It became a specialist Technology College. This happened after a lot of hard work since 1999. The school needed to raise £50,000 from sponsors. By July 2002, they had raised the money.
Being a Technology College meant the school received extra funding. This was about £800,000 over five years. This money helped improve technology and learning at the school. On December 1, 2011, Hollyfield School changed again. It officially became an academy.
School Houses
Hollyfield School has three different houses. Each house has its own color:
- Eagle (Red)
- Falcon (Blue)
- Osprey (Yellow)
Students earn 'House Points' for good work in class. They also get points for doing well with homework or in extra activities. The houses compete against each other all year. They want to win the most house points. At the end of the school year, the houses compete during 'Sports Day'. The house with the most points overall is then announced as the winner.
The houses also play in different sports competitions. These have included games like cricket and rugby.
