Exploring the Hollywood Museum's Collection
The Hollywood Museum has a huge collection of over 11,000 items. Imagine seeing real costumes, movie props, and even stop-motion figures! You can also find old photographs and scripts from your favorite films and TV shows.
Step Inside Max Factor's World
One of the most unique parts of the museum is seeing the original makeup rooms used by Max Factor. He was a very important makeup artist in early Hollywood. There were four special rooms, each designed for different hair colors:
- One room for redheads
- One room for blondes
- One room for brownettes (light brown hair)
- One room for brunettes (dark brown hair)
It's like stepping back in time to see how movie stars got ready!
A Look at the Museum's History
The building where the museum is located has a rich history. It was first bought in 1928 by Max Factor himself. He was a legend in the makeup world!
From Makeup Studio to Museum
In 1994, the building was sold to the Hollywood Museum. It took nine years of hard work and renovations to get it ready. Finally, in 2003, the museum opened its doors to the public.
Special Exhibitions and Reopening
The museum often hosts special exhibits. For example, in June 2016, it had a show called "Reel to Real." This exhibit explored how different groups of people have been shown in Hollywood movies over time.
Like many places, the museum had to close for a while during the COVID-19 pandemic in California. It was closed for 17 months in 2020 and 2021. But don't worry, it reopened in August 2021 and is ready for visitors again!
