Holoplatys is a group of spiders known as jumping spiders. They are part of the spider family called Salticidae. These spiders are special because they have excellent eyesight and can jump very well to catch their prey!
What are Holoplatys Spiders Like?
Holoplatys spiders have a unique look. Their body is divided into two main parts: the cephalothorax (which is like their head and chest combined) and the abdomen (their back part). Both of these parts are long, flat, and oval-shaped. The front part of their cephalothorax is a bit flat at the very front.
You can often find these spiders living under the bark of trees, especially eucalyptus trees. Their flat bodies help them to hide easily in tight spaces. They look a bit like another type of spider called Marpissa.
Where Do Holoplatys Spiders Live?
There are many different kinds of Holoplatys spiders. Most of them live in Australia, but you can also find some species in New Zealand, New Guinea, the Caroline Islands, China, and Thailand. Each type of Holoplatys spider has its own specific home, from the warm areas of Queensland to the cooler parts of Tasmania.
