History of the Park
The idea for the park came from Marvin Rosenthal. He was a Jewish man who became a Baptist pastor. He bought land in Orlando in 1989. The Holy Land Experience first opened its doors in February 2001.
The Scriptorium Museum
In August 2002, the Holy Land Experience opened its Scriptorium museum. This museum has a large collection of old Bibles and related items. It includes ancient scrolls and handwritten books. This collection is one of the biggest of its kind. It was started by Robert and Judith Van Kampen in 1986. The collection is now on loan to the Holy Land Experience.
New Ownership and Changes
In June 2007, the park was sold to the Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN). TBN bought the park for about $37 million. TBN planned to make many updates to the park. They also wanted to build a TV broadcasting center there. They even planned to make Christian movies at the park.
After TBN took over, the park changed a lot. They added new plants and trees. They also built new exhibits, restaurants, and theaters. These theaters show live music and plays. The park also started offering weekly Bible studies and cooking shows.
A special area for kids was added called the Smile of a Child Adventure Land. This part of the park has fun activities for children. It includes a rock-climbing wall, a toy store, and a craft center.
