Holy Trinity Church is a special old church in Wentworth, South Yorkshire, England. It is part of the Church of England. This church is considered a very important historical building. It has a special status called Grade II* listed, which means it's protected because of its history and beautiful design.

History of Holy Trinity Church

This amazing church was built by William Wentworth-Fitzwilliam, 6th Earl Fitzwilliam. He wanted to build it to remember his parents. Construction started in 1872. A famous architect named John Loughborough Pearson designed the building.

The church was finished in 1876. It was officially opened and blessed on July 31, 1877. The Archbishop of York performed the ceremony. When this new church opened, the older church in Wentworth, called Old Holy Trinity Church, Wentworth, was closed.

Beautiful Stained Glass Windows

The church has some stunning stained glass windows. These windows are made of many pieces of colored glass. They show beautiful pictures and patterns.

  • The window at the east side of the church was made in 1888. It was created by a company called Clayton and Bell.
  • The window at the west side of the church was designed by Charles Eamer Kempe.

The Church Organ

Holy Trinity Church has a large and impressive pipe organ. This type of organ makes music using air blown through many pipes. The organ was built in 1877 by Henry Willis, a famous organ builder.

In 1981, the organ was carefully repaired and restored. This work was done by Chalmers and Hyde. You can find more details about this organ on the National Pipe Organ Register website.
