Homburg is a small town, also called a municipality, in the Frauenfeld District of Thurgau, a canton in Switzerland. It is a lovely place with a mix of farming and beautiful natural areas.

History of Homburg

Homburg was first mentioned way back in the year 899. It was called Hohenperc then. Later, in 1243, it was known as de Honburch. For a long time, from the Middle Ages until 1798, Homburg was part of the lands belonging to Klingenberg Castle.

Between 1651 and 1798, a place called Muri Abbey had special rights over Homburg. They let their local leader, who lived at the castle, handle local laws.

After the Protestant Reformation in 1528, the old Catholic faith was brought back in 1532. For a while, both Catholics and Protestants used the same church. But by 1555-1556, only Catholic worship continued.

In the 1800s, farming in Homburg started to change. People began to focus more on raising animals, making dairy products, and growing fruit. Even though there are a few small businesses today, Homburg is still mostly a farming village.

Homburg covers an area of about 24 square kilometers (about 9.3 square miles). A large part of this land, almost 70%, is used for farming. About 24% of the area is covered by forests. The rest of the land has buildings, roads, or is made up of rivers and lakes.

The town is located in the Frauenfeld District. It sits on the southern side of the Seerücken hills, which are beautiful rolling hills. It is also north of the town of Müllheim.

For many years, from 1870 to 1998, Homburg was made up of the village of Homburg, a small settlement called Hörstetten, and Klingenberg Castle. In 1999, Homburg joined with two other communities, Gündelhart-Hörhausen and Salen-Reutenen. Together, they formed the larger political municipality of Homburg that we know today.

People of Homburg

Homburg has a population of about 1,433 people. Most people in Homburg speak German. A smaller number of people speak Albanian or Portuguese.

In 2009, about 10% of the population were children aged 0 to 9 years old. Teenagers, aged 10 to 19, made up about 14.6% of the population. This shows that Homburg has a good number of young people growing up there.

Many people in Homburg live in single-family homes. The town has a low number of empty homes, which means most houses are lived in.
