Early Life and Family
Homer Blankenship was born in Bonham, Texas. He was a member of the Cherokee Native American nation. He went to high school in Ada, Oklahoma. Homer's older brother, Ted Blankenship, was also a baseball pitcher. Ted played in the major leagues for nine seasons.
Playing in the Big Leagues
Homer Blankenship made his first appearance in Major League Baseball in 1922. He was 20 years old at the time. He played for the Chicago White Sox for parts of two seasons. After his time with the White Sox, he also played a short period with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1928.
Besides playing in the major leagues, Homer also pitched in the Texas League. He played there from 1926 to 1930. In 1926, he had his best year, winning 17 games for the Shreveport Sports team.
Life After Baseball
Homer Blankenship stopped playing professional baseball in 1931. He lived until 1974, when he passed away in Longview, Texas.
