Hopkins is a community located in Richland County, South Carolina, in the United States. It's called a census-designated place (CDP), which means it's a specific area identified for gathering population data.
Hopkins was started around 1836. It was named after John Hopkins, who lived from 1739 to 1775. The community is about 11 miles (18 km) southeast of downtown Columbia. It is part of the larger Columbia metropolitan area. In 2020, about 2,514 people lived in Hopkins.

Congaree National Park
Just 6 miles (10 km) northwest of Hopkins is Congaree National Park. This is South Carolina's only national park! It's famous for having the largest area of old-growth bottomland hardwood forest in the United States. This means it has very old trees that grow in wet, low-lying areas. Some of these trees are among the tallest deciduous (leaf-shedding) trees in the world.
The park covers about 27,000 acres (109 km²) of land and water. It's recognized internationally as a special place for nature. You can do many activities there, like hiking, camping, canoeing, fishing, and watching birds. It's a great place to explore nature.
Columbia South Carolina Temple
Hopkins is also home to the Columbia South Carolina Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This is a significant building for members of that faith.
