Horace Capron Jr. (born 1840 – died February 6, 1864) was a brave American soldier. He fought in the American Civil War, a big war in the United States. Horace Capron Jr. earned the Medal of Honor, which is the highest award for bravery a soldier can get. He received it for his courageous actions in Virginia in June 1862.

Horace Capron Jr. was born in Laurel, Maryland in 1840. His father was also named Horace Capron.

In September 1861, Horace Capron Jr. joined the army. He became a Corporal in the 8th Illinois Cavalry. The next year, in 1862, he was promoted to Sergeant. Later, he became a First Lieutenant in the 14th Illinois Cavalry. This was the same army group his father was part of.

Sadly, Horace Capron Jr. was killed while fighting on February 6, 1864. This happened in North Carolina. His body is buried at the Springdale Cemetery and Mausoleum in Peoria, Illinois.

After his death, on September 27, 1865, he was given the Medal of Honor. This award recognized his incredible bravery during the war.
