Horacio Gómez Bolaños (born June 28, 1930 – died November 21, 1999) was a Mexican actor. He was the brother of the famous comedian and writer Roberto Gómez Bolaños. Horacio is best known for playing the character Godínez in the popular TV show El Chavo.
Even though he acted in many of his brother's shows, Horacio mostly worked behind the scenes. He was very good at handling the business side of things.
From Business to Acting
When Horacio was young, he didn't plan to become an actor. He went to university and studied business administration. He learned a lot about how businesses work.
In 1970, his brother Chespirito started making two very popular TV shows: El Chavo del Ocho and El Chapulín Colorado. These shows were made at Televisa, a big TV company. Chespirito needed someone experienced to help with the business and marketing. So, he hired his brother Horacio.
Horacio helped sell products related to the shows. This included toys, clothes, and other fun items.
Becoming Godínez
Chespirito soon saw that Horacio had a talent for acting too. He convinced Horacio to try acting. That's how Horacio Gómez Bolaños got the role of Godínez in El Chavo del Ocho.
Godínez was a funny character who was often confused. Horacio didn't appear in every episode, but he became very famous. El Chavo del Ocho became a huge hit with children all over Latin America. It was also popular in Spain, the United States, and many other countries.
After El Chavo del Ocho and El Chapulín Colorado finished, Horacio stopped acting. He focused on directing and producing other shows for Televisa. He also continued to manage the business side of TV productions.
His Final Years
Horacio Gómez Bolaños passed away on November 21, 1999. He died from a heart attack. This happened while he was working on a special TV tribute show for his brother, Chespirito.
His body was cremated. His ashes are now at the Parroquia Madre de Dios de Czestochowa Church. This church is in Naucalpan de Juárez, which is in the State of Mexico.
