History of Horseshoe Casino
The Horseshoe Casino first opened in 1996. It was called Empress Casino back then. It was a 54,000-square-foot (5,000 m2) boat with four levels for games.
In 1999, a company called Horseshoe Gaming Holding Corporation bought Empress Casinos. This included the Hammond location. In 2001, the Hammond casino changed its name. It became Horseshoe Casino Hammond.
In 2004, Harrah's Entertainment bought the company. Harrah's later changed its name to Caesars Entertainment. They built a new, bigger boat for the casino. The new building opened on August 8, 2008.
In 2017, the ownership of the property changed. It went to Vici Properties. Caesars Entertainment still operates the casino.
What You Can Find Inside
The casino boat has two main floors for visitors. The first floor has a large area for games. It also has special sections for high-stakes games and poker. There are two main bars and a special lounge for VIP guests.
The second floor has a big entertainment space. It can hold up to 3,400 people. There is also an updated buffet restaurant. Next to the boat is a main building. It has more places to eat, like Jack Binion’s Steakhouse. You can also find a gift shop and rooms for meetings there.
The Venue: Entertainment Space
"The Venue" is the main entertainment area at Horseshoe Casino. It is a 90,000-square-foot (8,400 m2) space. It can host many different kinds of events.
Canadian designers named Sceno Plus created The Venue. They are known for designing theaters for Cirque du Soleil shows. They also designed the Coliseum at Caesars Palace.
The Venue usually has 2,500 seats that can move. These seats can be pulled back. This makes a large open room for concerts or trade shows. The Venue opened on August 8, 2008. It had concerts by famous artists like Bette Midler and Alicia Keys. Over 200 shows happened there in the first three years. It also hosted poker tournaments.
The casino has more than 2,200 people who work there.
Gaming Areas
Horseshoe Casino has over 350,000 square feet (33,000 m2) of space for games. It has more than 3,000 slot machines. This includes over 250 video poker machines. There are also 100 gaming tables.
The high-limit game room has 125 machines. These machines allow for larger bets. In the center of this room is a large acrylic horseshoe statue. It was the second largest acrylic statue in the United States when it opened.
Poker Room
Horseshoe Casino has the biggest poker room in the Midwest. It has 34 tables for poker games. There is also a private poker area called Benny’s Back Room. It is named after Benny Binion. He started the first Horseshoe casino in Las Vegas.
Horseshoe often hosts big poker tournaments. These include the World Series of Poker Chicago Circuit Event. This event is the largest of its kind in the United States.
