History of Hosmer
Hosmer was founded in 1887. The city got its name from Stella A. Hosmer. She was the maiden name of a railroad agent's wife.

Schools in Hosmer
For many years, Hosmer had its own school, home of the Hosmer Tigers. But after the 1990–1991 school year, the Hosmer school joined with the Roscoe Hornets from Roscoe, South Dakota. Together, they formed a new school district called Edmunds Central, home of the Raiders.
The old Hosmer school building was then used for some elementary classes for Edmunds Central. However, the school in Hosmer is now closed. Even though parents can choose where to send their children, most students from the Hosmer area still go to Edmunds Central in Roscoe.
