Hossam Ghaly (born 21 October 1981) is a famous Egyptian former footballer. He played as a central midfielder, which is a player who helps both attack and defense. After his football career, he became a member of the Egyptian Parliament. He also works as a board member for his old club, Al Ahly SC.

Hossam Ghaly's Football Journey
Starting His Career
Hossam Ghaly started playing football at a young age. He joined the youth team of Al Ahly SC, a big club in Egypt. By 1997, when he was only 16, he joined the first team. He played regularly for Al Ahly for several years.
In 2003, Ghaly moved to Europe. He joined Feyenoord Rotterdam, a club in the Netherlands. Many other European clubs were interested in him too.
Playing in England: Tottenham Hotspur
After three seasons in the Netherlands, Ghaly moved to England. In January 2006, he joined Tottenham Hotspur. This club plays in the Premier League, which is England's top football league. He signed a contract for four and a half years.
Ghaly played his first game for Tottenham in September 2006. He scored his first goal for the team in a UEFA Cup match. He also scored a goal in the Premier League against Watford.
A Difficult Moment
In May 2007, something happened that many fans remember. During a game against Blackburn, Ghaly was taken off the field. He was upset and threw his shirt to the ground. This made some Tottenham fans angry.
Ghaly later said he was very sorry for his reaction. He explained that he was frustrated with himself and how he was playing. He said he always felt honored to wear the Tottenham shirt. He apologized to his manager and the fans. After this, he did not play for Tottenham again for a while. He wanted to leave the club.
Moving to Other Clubs
Ghaly almost moved to Birmingham City in 2007. However, the deal did not happen. In January 2008, he went on loan to Derby County. He played 12 games for them. After Derby was moved to a lower league, Ghaly decided he wanted to stay in the Premier League.
He returned to Tottenham, but fans still remembered the shirt incident. When he was warming up for a game, some fans booed him. Because of this, the manager decided not to play him.
Playing in Saudi Arabia
In January 2009, Hossam Ghaly moved to Saudi Arabia. He joined the club Al-Nassr. He played there for about a year.
Back to Al Ahly and Retirement
In July 2010, Ghaly returned to his first club, Al Ahly SC. He signed a three-year contract. He even got his old number 14 shirt back and became the team captain. During this time, he got injured and missed part of a season.
In 2013, Ghaly moved to Belgium. He played for Lierse SK for one year. This was because the Egyptian league was stopped due to political issues.
Ghaly came back to Al Ahly in 2014. He played there for three more years. Then, he went back to Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia for a year. Finally, he returned to Al Ahly in 2018, where he played his last few games. His very last match was on 11 May 2018 against Ajax. Al Ahly won that game.
Life After Playing Football
After retiring from playing, Hossam Ghaly became a Football Director. He worked for El Gouna FC from 2018 to 2020. In this role, he helped manage the football side of the club.
Later, Ghaly became a member of parliament in Egypt. He also ran for president of Al Ahly in 2021, showing his continued involvement in football. Today, he is a board member at Al Ahly.
