Hossein Hamadani (born December 15, 1950 – died October 7, 2015) was an important commander in Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. After his death, he was given the higher rank of Major General.
Early Life and Military Career
Hossein Hamadani was born in Abadan, Iran. His family originally came from Hamadan.
He became well-known during the 1979 Kurdish rebellion in Iran and the Iran–Iraq War. In these conflicts, he helped to maintain order in the country. In 2005, he became a high-ranking officer in the Revolutionary Guard. He helped to plan how to keep the country stable during challenging times. He also helped manage large public gatherings in 2009. From 2009 to 2014, he led a special unit of the Revolutionary Guard in Tehran.
Books Written by Hamadani
Hossein Hamadani was also an author. He wrote three books about his experiences and important events in Iran's history:
- Moonlight of Khayyen: This book tells stories about the Iranian Revolution, conflicts in Kurdistan, and the Iran–Iraq War.
- Conquerors of Khorramshahr: This book is about the Liberation of Khorramshahr, an important event during the Iran–Iraq War.
- Brother, It's Duty: This book is about his own life story.
Role in Syria and Death
Later in his career, Hamadani served in Syria. He worked as an advisor to the Syrian army during the Syrian Civil War. He also oversaw operations for the Quds Force, which supported the Syrian government.
Hossein Hamadani was killed in an attack by ISIL in Aleppo, Syria, on October 7, 2015.
