The Houstonia acerosa, often called the New Mexico bluet or needleleaf bluet, is a small flowering plant. It grows naturally in parts of Mexico and the United States. You can find it in states like Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo León, Tamaulipas, and San Luis Potosí in Mexico. In the U.S., it grows in Texas and New Mexico.

What is the New Mexico Bluet?

This plant is a type of herb. This means it has soft stems, not woody ones like a tree. It usually grows to be about 20 centimeters (about 8 inches) tall. The New Mexico bluet has very thin, needle-like leaves. When it blooms, you can see its pretty white or purplish flowers.

Different Kinds of New Mexico Bluet

Scientists have found three main types, or varieties, of the New Mexico bluet. These varieties are slightly different from each other, often in where they grow or small features.
