How to Train Your Dragon: Homecoming is a fun computer-animated short film from 2019. It was made by DreamWorks Animation and directed by Tim Johnson. This special holiday story happens during the time jump at the end of the third "How to Train Your Dragon" movie. You could watch it on TV or find it on DVD starting December 3, 2019.

The Story

As the village of New Berk gets ready for Snoggletog, Hiccup and Astrid discover something worrying. Their children, Zephyr and Nuffink, have become afraid of dragons! This happened after they found some old books that belonged to Stoick, Hiccup's dad. These books talked about how Vikings used to hate dragons.

Astrid worries that their kids might start to dislike dragons too. To stop this, she suggests bringing back the Snoggletog Pageant. This pageant is a play that tells the story of how Vikings and dragons became friends. Gobber, a close friend of Hiccup's family, agrees to help. He thinks it's a great way to remind everyone, especially the children, about Stoick's important role in their village.

Gobber decides to play Stoick in the pageant. Tuffnut, another friend, plays Hiccup. The real Hiccup works on making a special costume. It's a mechanical suit that looks just like Toothless!

Meanwhile, in the Hidden World, Toothless is living as the king of the dragons. He has his mate, the Light Fury, and three little Night Lights. Toothless misses Hiccup and New Berk. He draws a picture of them in the sand to show his family.

His curious Night Light children see the drawing. While their parents are sleeping, they decide to fly off to New Berk to see it for themselves! Toothless and the Light Fury wake up in a panic. They quickly fly after their missing children.

The Night Lights arrive on New Berk. They sneak around the village while everyone prepares for the pageant. They even catch a glimpse of Hiccup. But then they get scared when they see Hiccup's Toothless costume. It looks a bit too real! Soon, Toothless and the Light Fury find their children. They decide to stay hidden and watch the pageant from a distance.

During the show, Gobber accidentally sets the stage on fire! This causes Hiccup's mechanical Toothless costume to go wild. Hiccup stumbles and falls off a cliff. Luckily, Toothless swoops in and saves him! He brings Hiccup back to the stage.

Smoke from the fire covers the stage. Toothless decides to take Hiccup's place. He helps Gobber finish the show. They act out the moment when Hiccup and Toothless first became friends in the very first movie. This reminds everyone in New Berk, and Toothless's own family, about the special bond between Vikings and dragons.

After the show, Zephyr goes backstage to check on her dad. She comes face-to-face with Toothless! He is kind and curious, and this changes how Zephyr feels about dragons. Soon after, Toothless flies off with his family.

Even though the pageant had some problems, Hiccup and Astrid are happy. The young people of New Berk now have a new appreciation for Stoick and for dragons. When they get home, they find a glowing crystal from the Hidden World. Toothless's favorite fish bowl is also empty. They run outside and see Toothless and his family flying away from New Berk.

Hiccup realizes that their loved ones are always close, even if they are far away. Astrid thinks their family should visit Toothless and the dragons in the Hidden World. This visit eventually leads to the ending scene of the third film.
