Jonathan Adam Saunders Baruchel (born April 9, 1982) is a Canadian actor, director, and writer. He is famous for being the voice of Hiccup Haddock in the popular How to Train Your Dragon movies and TV shows.
Many people also know him from comedy movies like Fanboys (2009), She's Out of My League (2010), and This Is the End (2013). He also starred in the Disney fantasy movie The Sorcerer's Apprentice (2010). Besides comedy, he has acted in serious movies like Million Dollar Baby (2004) and BlackBerry (2023).

Early life
Jay Baruchel was born in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. His mother, Robyne, is a writer, and his father, Serge, was an antiques dealer. He grew up in the Notre-Dame-de-Grâce neighborhood of Montréal, Quebec, with his younger sister.
His father was from Paris, France. Baruchel's family background is a mix of French, Irish-Catholic, and Jewish heritage. He has said his Irish family roots come from County Mayo.
Career
Baruchel started acting when he was 12 years old. His first big role was in a local TV show called My Hometown in 1996. From 1997 to 1998, he was a co-host on the show Popular Mechanics for Kids with Elisha Cuthbert.
He later starred in the comedy TV series Undeclared from 2001 to 2002. In 2004, he played a young boxer in the Clint Eastwood movie Million Dollar Baby.
Rise to fame
Throughout the 2000s, Baruchel appeared in many popular comedy movies. He was in Knocked Up (2007) and the action-comedy Tropic Thunder (2008). He also had roles in Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist (2008) and a small part in Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian (2009).
In 2010, he became a leading man in movies. He starred in the romantic comedy She's Out of My League and the Disney adventure The Sorcerer's Apprentice.
Voicing Hiccup and other roles
One of Baruchel's most famous roles began in 2010 when he voiced Hiccup, the main character in the animated movie How to Train Your Dragon. The movie was a huge success, and he continued to voice Hiccup in the sequels and the TV series.
He also co-wrote and acted in the hockey comedy Goon (2011). In 2013, he starred with many of his friends in the comedy This Is the End. In 2014, he returned as Hiccup in How to Train Your Dragon 2 and appeared in the remake of RoboCop.
From 2015 to 2017, he starred in the comedy series Man Seeking Woman. He also directed the sequel Goon: Last of the Enforcers in 2017.
Recent work
In 2019, Baruchel voiced Hiccup for the last time in How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World. He also directed and starred in the movie Random Acts of Violence.
In 2022, he hosted a TV series called We're All Gonna Die (Even Jay Baruchel), where he talked to scientists about different ways the world could face big challenges.

Personal life
Baruchel was engaged to actress Alison Pill from 2011 to 2013. In 2018, he announced his engagement to Rebecca-Jo Dunham, and they got married in Portugal on September 21, 2019.
He is a huge fan of the Montreal Canadiens hockey team and even wrote a book about his love for the team called Born Into It: A Fan's Life. He has a few tattoos, including a red maple leaf on his chest to show his Canadian pride and a Celtic cross for his Irish heritage.
