Howard Henry Tooth (1856–1925) was a British doctor who studied the brain and nerves, called a neurologist. He was one of the doctors who helped discover a disease named after him, called Charcot–Marie–Tooth disease.

Howard Tooth's Early Life and Schooling
Howard Henry Tooth was born in Hove, Sussex, England, on April 22, 1856. His father was Frederick Tooth.
He went to Rugby School and then studied at St John's College, Cambridge. He earned his first degree, a Bachelor of Arts, in 1877. Later, in 1881, he received his Master of Arts degree.
After his university studies, Dr. Tooth continued his medical training. He studied at St Bartholomew's Hospital and became a medical doctor (MD) in 1885.
Howard Tooth's Medical Career
In 1887, Dr. Tooth became a physician at the London Metropolitan Hospital. In the same year, he also started working as an assistant physician at the National Hospital for the Paralysed and Epileptic. He became a full physician there in 1907.
He also worked at St Bartholomew's Hospital. He was an assistant physician starting in 1895 and became a full physician in 1906.
In 1894, he taught a special course for other doctors. This course at the National Hospital was about the cranial nerves, which are important nerves in the head.
Dr. Tooth received special honors for his work. He was given the CMG award in 1901 and the CB award in 1918.
Howard Tooth's Military Service
Dr. Tooth spent a good amount of time serving in the military. He reached the rank of colonel.
During the Boer War, he was stationed in South Africa. He helped care for soldiers there.
During World War I, he worked in London. He also served as a consulting physician for troops in Malta. Later, he advised the British forces in Italy. His important work during the war was mentioned twice in official reports.
Howard Tooth's Community Involvement
Howard Tooth was a member of the Pathological Society of London. This group focused on studying diseases. In 1894, he served as a council member for this society.

Howard Tooth was married twice. His first wife was Mary Beatrice Price, and they had one daughter together.
He later married Helen Katherine Chilver. With her, he had two sons and one daughter.
Howard Henry Tooth passed away at his home in Hadleigh, Suffolk. He died from a cerebral hemorrhage, which is a type of stroke.
