Early Life and Learning
Hubert Reeves was born in Montreal, Canada, on July 13, 1932. As a child, he lived in a place called Léry in Quebec. He went to a special French-language college in Montreal called Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf.
He loved learning about science. He earned his first degree in physics from the Université de Montréal in 1953. Later, he got a master's degree from McGill University in 1956. Finally, he earned his PhD from Cornell University in 1960.
His Work in Science
From 1960 to 1964, Hubert Reeves taught physics at the Université de Montréal. During this time, he also worked as an adviser for NASA, the space agency.
In 1965, he became a Director of Research at the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS). He spent many years there, studying the universe. He was known for his work on how stars create different elements, a process called stellar nucleosynthesis.
Sharing Science with Everyone
Hubert Reeves lived in Paris, France, for a long time. He was very good at making science easy to understand for everyone. He often appeared on television to talk about space and the universe. He helped many people learn about the wonders of science.
He passed away in Paris on October 13, 2023, when he was 91 years old.
