Exploring Hudsonville's Past
Hudsonville was officially planned in 1873. This happened soon after a railroad line was built there. The city was named after Homer E. Hudson. He was an early settler and the first postmaster.
The first settlement was near a swamp. This made it hard for the town to grow at first. In 1872, the Chicago and West Michigan Railroad was finished. The railroad brought more people to the area. Many of these new settlers were immigrants from the Netherlands.
