Hugh Michael Horace Dancy (born June 19, 1975) is an English actor. He became well-known for playing the main character in the TV movie David Copperfield (2000). You might also know him as Prince Charmont in the movie Ella Enchanted (2004) or as Will Graham in the TV series Hannibal (2013–2015). He also played Cal Roberts in the Hulu series The Path (2016–2018). Currently, he plays Nolan Price on the TV show Law & Order (2022–present).

Early Life and Education
Hugh Dancy was born in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England. He grew up in Newcastle-under-Lyme. His mother, Sarah Ann Dancy, works in publishing. His father, Jonathan Dancy, is a philosophy professor.
Hugh is the oldest of three children. He has a brother, Jack, and a sister, Katharine. From ages 5 to 10, Hugh went to Edenhurst Preparatory School. Later, he attended boarding schools: the Dragon School and Winchester College. When he was 18, he acted in a play called Twelfth Night. He then studied English at St Peter's College, Oxford.
Becoming an Actor
After finishing college, Hugh moved to London. A lucky meeting in a cafe led him to an agent, and he began his acting career. In 1999, he appeared in the TV series Cold Feet. In 2002, he played Daniel Deronda in a BBC show based on a famous novel.
Famous Roles in Movies
Hugh Dancy has played many interesting characters in movies. He was Prince Charmont in the 2004 film Ella Enchanted, starring alongside Anne Hathaway. In the same year, he played Galahad in King Arthur.
In 2009, he starred in an independent film called Adam. In this movie, he played a young man with autism. The film was shown for the first time at the Sundance Film Festival. He also appeared in Confessions of a Shopaholic (2009) and Martha Marcy May Marlene (2011).
TV Shows You Might Know
In March 2012, Hugh was cast as Will Graham in the TV series Hannibal. This show was based on the book Red Dragon. It was very popular and ran for three seasons until 2015.
From 2016 to 2018, he played Cal Roberts in the Hulu series The Path. He starred with Aaron Paul and Michelle Monaghan. In 2021, it was announced that Hugh would join the TV show Law & Order. He plays an assistant district attorney named Nolan Price.
On Stage
Hugh Dancy has also acted in many plays. He performed in The Pride in New York City. In 2007, he had a main role on Broadway in a play called Journey's End. From 2010 to 2011, he starred in Venus in Fur on Broadway, and his acting received praise from critics.
Personal Life
Hugh Dancy met American actress Claire Danes in 2006 while they were filming the movie Evening. They got engaged in February 2009 and were married in France later that year. They have three children: two sons born in 2012 and 2018, and a daughter born in 2023.
The family lives in the West Village neighborhood of New York City.
