Hugues Lapointe (March 3, 1911 – November 13, 1982) was an important Canadian lawyer and politician. He served as a Member of Parliament (MP) and later as the Lieutenant Governor of Quebec. He held this high office from 1966 to 1978.

Early Life and Education
Hugues Lapointe was born in Rivière-du-Loup, Quebec. His father, Ernest Lapointe, was also a Canadian Member of Parliament. Hugues studied at the University of Ottawa and Université Laval.
Becoming a Lawyer
After his studies, he became a lawyer in Quebec in 1935. He worked as a lawyer from 1936 to 1961.
Military Service
During World War II, Hugues Lapointe served in the military. He rose to the rank of lieutenant colonel.
Political Career
Hugues Lapointe had a long and successful career in Canadian politics. He was a member of the Liberal Party.
Member of Parliament
He was first elected as an MP in 1940. He represented the area of Lotbinière in Quebec. He was re-elected three more times in 1945, 1949, and 1953. He served in the House of Commons of Canada until 1957.
Cabinet Minister Roles
During his time as an MP, Hugues Lapointe held several important jobs in the Canadian government. These jobs are called "cabinet positions."

He was married to Marie-Lucette Valin. Hugues Lapointe passed away on November 13, 1982.
