Hyannis is a small village in Grant County, Nebraska, United States. In 2020, about 165 people lived there. It is the main town, or county seat, of Grant County.

Hyannis is special because it's located in the middle of the Nebraska Sandhills. This is a huge area of unique grasslands. Two main roads meet here: Nebraska Highway 61 (running north and south) and Nebraska Highway 2 (running east and west).

History of Hyannis

Hyannis was started in 1888. This was when a railroad, the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy, built tracks to the area. A railroad official named it after another village called Hyannis, which is in Massachusetts.

Today, you can get to Hyannis by bus. The Panhandle Trails bus comes three times a day, Monday through Friday.

Geography and Location

Hyannis is found in the Nebraska Sandhills. This area is known for its grassy sand dunes. The village covers about 0.52 square miles (1.35 square kilometers) of land. There is no water area within the village limits.
