Hynds Lodge is a special building in Wyoming. It's located between Laramie, Wyoming and Cheyenne, Wyoming. A kind businessman named Harry P. Hynds built it in 1922. He gave it to the Boy Scouts of America to use. Today, it's a place where groups can stay for meetings or events. It is part of Curt Gowdy State Park.

About Hynds Lodge
This lodge is open from May to October. You need to book it in advance to stay there. It can sleep up to 30 people, but up to 90 can visit during the day. The lodge has a big kitchen, a dining room, and a living room. There is also a cozy stone fireplace. Outside, there is a covered porch. The lodge sits on 9 acres (about 3.6 hectares) of land.
The lodge is built into a hillside. It has many large trees around it. Tall granite rocks rise behind the building. The lodge is made from granite stone. This gives it a very unique and strong look. The University of Wyoming uses the lodge. Their geology students stay here for summer field courses. Hynds Lodge was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. This means it is an important historical building.
Nature Around the Lodge
The lodge is surrounded by beautiful nature. The south fork of Crow Creek flows nearby. You can also see granite rock formations. The area has woodlands with cedar and spruce trees. It's a great place to explore the outdoors.
The Lodge's History
Hynds Lodge was first built for the Boy Scouts. They used it as a fun camp. Later, many different groups used it. Churches, social clubs, and businesses all held events there. In 1971, the land around the lodge became part of Curt Gowdy State Park. Now, the park helps manage the lodge.
Who Was Harry P. Hynds?
Harry P. Hynds came to Cheyenne in 1882. He started as a blacksmith. He became very wealthy through his businesses. He was also a generous person who helped many causes. He even helped start the famous Frontier Days Rodeo.
By 1922, the Boy Scouts were very popular in Cheyenne. Their leaders wanted to build a cabin. They asked Hynds for help to raise money. But Hynds decided to pay for the whole cabin himself! The lodge was finished in the summer of 1922. It was first run by a group for the Boy Scouts. In 1935, the City of Cheyenne took over. Many community groups have used it since then. Major repairs were done in 1966 to keep the lodge in good shape.
