Building the World: Hyundai's Global Projects
Hyundai Construction played a big part in bringing Korean workers to the Middle East in the 1970s and 1980s. These workers helped build many important projects there. For example, in 1975, Hyundai signed a contract to build a shipyard for the Iranian Navy.
Many Koreans traveled to work on these projects. About 800,000 Koreans went to Saudi Arabia, and another 25,000 went to Iran. Hyundai was the biggest employer for these workers.
Who Owns Hyundai E&C Today?
For a while, from 2001 to 2006, the company was managed by banks. This happened when the original Hyundai Group split into several different companies.
