Isaac Samuel Johnson (born October 28, 1840 – died September 25, 1906) was an American lawyer and politician from New York. He served in the American Civil War and later held important roles in his community and state government.

Early Life and Education
Isaac Samuel Johnson was born on October 28, 1840. His birthplace was Centerfield, New York. His parents were Hiram Johnson and Jane Slade.
When he was three years old, in 1843, his family moved to Cattaraugus County. Later, he moved to Warsaw. He went to the Warsaw Academy and the Genesee Wesleyan Seminary for his education.
Johnson then began studying law. He learned from General L. W. Thayer for six months. After that, he continued his law studies with Judges Comstock and Healy. He studied with them until August 1862.
Military Service
In August 1862, the American Civil War was happening. Isaac Johnson joined the army during this time. He became part of the 136th New York Infantry Regiment.
In September 1862, he officially joined as a first sergeant in Company D. He was later promoted to first lieutenant in March 1863. However, in January 1864, he had to leave the army. He was discharged because of a disability.
Law Career
After his military service, Johnson continued his path to become a lawyer. In May 1864, he passed his exams and was allowed to practice law. He first worked with M. E. Bartlett in Warsaw.
In 1866, he moved to Arcade. By 1870, he became a partner in a law firm called Johnson & McKnight. He returned to Warsaw in 1876. The next year, in 1877, he started a new law partnership. It was with S. B. Bartlett and was called Johnson & Bartlett.
When Bartlett moved away in 1881, Johnson formed another partnership. This time it was with H. E. Dean. In 1885, he started the law firm Johnson & Charles with Elmer E. Charles.
Political Roles
Isaac Johnson also had a successful career in politics. In 1876, he was elected as the District Attorney for Wyoming County. This job meant he was the chief prosecutor for the county. He was re-elected twice and served in this role for nine years.
He also served as the president of the village of Arcade. Later, he was a trustee for the village of Warsaw.
In 1889, he was elected to the New York State Assembly. He represented Wyoming County as a member of the Republican Party. He served in the Assembly for two terms, in 1890 and 1891. He was also chosen to be a delegate. This was for the 1894 New York State Constitutional Convention.
Personal Life and Memberships
Isaac Johnson was a member of several community groups. These included the Freemasons, the Royal Arch Masonry, and the Knights Templar. He was also part of the Shriners, the Odd Fellows, and the Knights of Pythias. He was a commander of his local Grand Army of the Republic post. This group was for Civil War veterans.
In 1865, he married Mary McFarland. She was from Twinsburg, Ohio. They did not have any children.
Death
Isaac Samuel Johnson passed away at his home on September 25, 1906. He was buried in the Warsaw Cemetery.
