Ian De Souza Goodison (born 21 November 1972) is a former professional footballer from Jamaica. He played as a defender, which means he helped protect his team's goal. Ian Goodison spent most of his football career playing for an English team called Tranmere Rovers.

Playing for Clubs
Starting His Career
Ian Goodison was born in Montego Bay, Jamaica. He started playing football in smaller leagues in Jamaica. In 1996, a coach named René Simões noticed his talent. Goodison then joined the Jamaican national team right away.
He played for Olympic Gardens in 1997. After that, he moved to England to play for Hull City. This was a team in the Third Division of English football. He joined Hull City with his friend, Theo Whitmore.
Goodison quickly became a key player for Hull City. He was even named their Player of the Season for 2000–01. He scored his only goal for the club in a 2–1 win against Carlisle United. After his manager left, Goodison returned to Jamaica. He played for Seba United for a couple of years.
Time at Tranmere Rovers
In February 2004, Ian Goodison joined Tranmere Rovers. He played as a strong defender in the middle of their defense. He played over 350 games for the club, which is a lot!
Fans loved him, and he was voted their Player of the Season three times. He also won the North West League One Footballer of the Year award three times. In his first season, Tranmere reached the quarter-finals of the FA Cup. This is a big competition in English football.
Goodison kept playing for Tranmere even after he turned 40. He was the first player ever to do this for the club. In May 2013, he signed another contract to stay with the team. He played his 400th game for Tranmere on 13 October 2013. He was the team captain that day, and they won 1–0 against Bradford City.
In December 2013, there were reports about an investigation related to football matches. However, any charges against him were later dropped. In May 2015, a special game was held for Goodison at Prenton Park. This type of game, called a testimonial, celebrates a player's long career. Many of his former teammates from Tranmere and Jamaica played in the game.
Playing for His Country
Jamaica National Team
Ian Goodison also had a great career playing for the Jamaica national team. He played his first international game in March 1996 against Guatemala. He scored his first goal for Jamaica in that very first game!
Goodison played many games for his country. He holds the record for the most appearances for Jamaica, with 128 games. He also scored 10 goals for his national team. A big part of his international career included playing in 45 games for the FIFA World Cup qualification. He also played in the 1998 FIFA World Cup tournament.
