Early Life and Family
Ian Mosey was born in Keighley, a town in West Riding of Yorkshire, England. His father, Don Mosey, was a well-known writer who focused on cricket, another popular sport.
Starting His Golf Journey
Ian Mosey became a professional golfer in 1972. This means he started playing golf for money, competing in big tournaments. For almost two decades, he was a regular player on the European Tour. This tour is a series of golf tournaments held mostly in Europe, where top golfers compete.
Winning on the European Tour
Ian had a great run on the European Tour. His best ranking was 29th on the "Order of Merit" in both 1984 and 1986. The Order of Merit is like a leaderboard that ranks golfers based on how much money they've won in a season.
He won two important tournaments on the European Tour:
- In 1980, he won the Merseyside International Open. He won this in a playoff, which is like extra time in a game, against fellow English golfer Tony Jacklin.
- In 1984, he won the Monte Carlo Open. This tournament was shorter than usual because of fog, but Ian still managed to win by a good margin.
Playing in Southern Africa
When it wasn't the European Tour season, Ian Mosey also played golf in South Africa. He won two more titles in countries near South Africa:
- In 1980, he won the Kalahari Diamond Classic.
- In 1981, he won the Holiday Inns Pro-Am in a playoff against two other golfers.
Later Career and Achievements
After his time on the main European Tour, Ian joined the European Seniors Tour in 2001. This tour is for professional golfers aged 50 and over. While he didn't win any tournaments on the Seniors Tour, he continued to play the sport he loved.
Ian Mosey also played in The Open Championship, which is one of the biggest golf tournaments in the world. His best finish there was tied for 38th place in 1976.
