Ian Ross: A Famous News Presenter

Early Career in Radio and TV

Ian Ross started his career in 1957 at a radio station in Sydney called 2GB. This was his first step into the world of media. In 1965, he moved to television and became a reporter for National Nine News in Sydney.

He worked at the Nine Network for 38 years. During this time, he became especially famous as the news presenter for the morning show Today. He also often filled in as a news reader for National Nine News when other presenters were away. In 1997, Ian Ross even appeared as himself in a popular Australian movie called The Castle.

Becoming Sydney's Top News Reader

After retiring for a short time, Ian Ross decided to return to television in 2003. He joined the Seven Network. He was excited by the challenge of making Seven News the most watched news program in Sydney at 6:00 PM.

In 2004, Seven News started to get more viewers. They won 13 weeks out of 40 in the ratings. However, they were still behind Nine News and Ten Eyewitness News. But by the next year, in 2005, Seven News became the number one news bulletin in Sydney. This showed how much people enjoyed watching Ian Ross.

Before his final retirement, Ian Ross presented Seven News in Sydney from Sunday to Wednesday. Another presenter, Chris Bath, hosted the news on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights.

Saying Goodbye to News Reading

On November 27, 2009, Ian Ross presented his very last news bulletin for Seven News in Sydney. He officially retired from reading the news. It was an emotional moment for him as he said goodbye to his viewers and his colleagues.

Even after retiring, he made a special guest appearance. He was on the first episode of the Seven Network show The Daily Edition.
