Ianis Hagi (born 22 October 1998) is a professional football player from Romania. He plays as an attacking midfielder or a winger. Currently, he plays for the Rangers club in Scotland. He also plays for the Romanian national team.
Ianis started his professional career at just 16 years old. He played for Viitorul Constanța. He had trained at the academy founded by his father, Gheorghe Hagi, a famous Romanian footballer. In 2016, he moved to Italy to play for Fiorentina. After a year and a half, he returned to Viitorul. There, he helped his team win the Cupa României, a national cup. In 2019, he joined the Belgian team Genk. In 2020, he moved to Rangers, first on loan, then permanently. He helped Rangers win the league title in the 2020–21 season.
Ianis first played for the senior Romanian national team in November 2018. This was a UEFA Nations League match against Lithuania. He was chosen to play for Romania in UEFA Euro 2024. His team won their group and reached the round of 16.

Starting His Football Path
Ianis Hagi was born on 22 October 1998 in Istanbul, Turkey. His father, Gheorghe Hagi, was playing football for Galatasaray at the time. Ianis joined his father's Gheorghe Hagi Football Academy in 2009. He made his first appearance in Romania's top league, Liga I, on 5 December 2014. He was only 16 years old. He played for Viitorul Constanța. He came on as a substitute in a match they lost 2–1 to FC Botoșani.
On 29 May 2015, Ianis scored his first goal as a senior player. This was in a 4–4 draw against the same team, FC Botoșani. He also started the game for the first time. In June, he became the captain of his team. He scored his second league goal on 21 August 2015. This was in a 4–0 win against ACS Poli Timișoara. Later that year, in October, The Guardian newspaper named him one of the 50 best young footballers in the world born in 1998.
Playing in Italy with Fiorentina
On 10 July 2016, Ianis Hagi moved to Italy. He joined the club Fiorentina for about €2 million. He played his first league game for them on 23 October. He came on as a substitute in a 5–3 win against Cagliari. In April 2017, Ianis was nominated for the European Golden Boy award. This award is given to the best young player in Europe.
Coming Back to Viitorul Constanța
Ianis returned to Viitorul Constanța on 18 January 2018. The transfer fee was reported to be €2 million. Fiorentina would also get 30% of any future transfer fee. In July, he was again nominated for the European Golden Boy award. During his second time at his father's team, he scored 20 goals in 53 matches. He won his first trophy on 25 May 2019. Viitorul beat Astra Giurgiu 2–1 in the Cupa României final.
Time with Genk in Belgium

On 12 July 2019, Ianis Hagi signed a five-year contract with Genk. They were the defending champions in Belgium. The transfer fee was reported to be around €4 million to €10 million.
On 26 July 2019, Ianis made his debut for Genk. He came off the bench and scored the winning goal. This was in a 2–1 victory against Kortrijk. He scored two more goals on 28 September against Sint-Truiden. He also helped Théo Bongonda score in that 3–3 draw. Ianis played in five group stage matches in the UEFA Champions League.
Success with Rangers
Ianis Hagi joined the Scottish club Rangers on 31 January 2020. It was a six-month loan with an option to buy him permanently. The next day, he played his first game for Rangers. He came on as a substitute in a 0–0 draw with Aberdeen. On 5 February, Ianis started a game and scored the winning goal. This was in a 2–1 victory over Hibernian. Fifteen days later, he scored two goals against Braga in the UEFA Europa League. Rangers won that game 3–2. In May 2020, Rangers signed Ianis permanently from Genk.
Rangers went on to win the Scottish Premiership title at the end of the next season. Ianis also won the Scottish Premiership Playmaker of the Season award. He had the most assists (11 assists) in the 2020–21 season. On 17 May 2021, he was named Rangers Young Player of the Year.

Ianis Hagi has played for Romania at many youth levels. These include under-15, under-16, under-17, under-18, under-19, and under-21. On 11 September 2018, he scored a goal directly from a corner kick. This was in a 2–0 win against the Bosnia and Herzegovina under-21 team. Two months later, he played his first game for the senior Romanian team. This was a 3–0 win against Lithuania.
Ianis was part of the team that qualified for the European Under-21 Championship in 2019. He started in all three group matches. He scored one goal against Croatia and another against England. This helped his team reach the semi-finals. They lost 4–2 to Germany.
