A Glimpse into Iargo Springs' Past
Iargo Springs has a long and interesting history. For many years, even before settlers arrived, people used the springs as a source of clean drinking water.
Early Uses by Loggers
Around the late 1800s, early loggers built dams on the springs. These dams helped them direct water to their logging camps nearby. At that time, much of what is now Cooke Pond was dry land. The springs were an important resource for these workers.
Building Trails with the CCC
In the 1920s, people started visiting the springs just for fun and relaxation. A special trail to the springs was built in 1934 by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). The CCC was a group of young men who worked on conservation projects during the Great Depression. Old photos show the CCC members working hard to repair and strengthen the dams at the springs.
Renovations and New Beginnings
