The Ibex Valley is a beautiful valley in Yukon, Canada. It's about 16 kilometers (10 miles) west of the city of Whitehorse. The valley gets its name from Ibex Mountain, which is nearby. People who live here enjoy a quiet, country lifestyle. They live on farms or in homes spread out across the land. Five elected councilors from the Ibex Valley Hamlet help manage the area.

The Ibex Valley is surrounded by several mountains. To the south, you'll find Ibex Mountain. Mount Arkell and Mount Ingram are to the west. Mount Sumanik and Mount Williams stand tall to the east.

About the Ibex Valley

The Ibex Valley is mostly untouched by buildings and towns. It has many trails that people use for fun activities. The valley is filled with tall evergreen trees and open grassy areas. This kind of nature is common in a sub-alpine ecosystem. This means it's a high-altitude area just below where trees stop growing.

The southern part of the valley stretches about 15 kilometers (9 miles) from south to north. Then, the valley changes direction and heads towards the northwest. This part of the valley is flatter and wider.

Fun Activities in the Valley

Since the Ibex Valley is mostly undeveloped, it's a great place for outdoor adventures. There are many trails to explore. These trails are perfect for different activities throughout the year.

You can go hiking and explore the natural beauty. Many people also enjoy mountain biking on the trails. If you like climbing, there are spots for bouldering. In winter, the valley becomes a snowy playground. You can go cross-country skiing or snowmobiling. It's also a popular place for dog sledding.

The Alaska Pipeline Project

A big project called the Alaska Pipeline Project has plans to go through a part of the Ibex Valley. Back in 1982, a special path was set aside for a pipeline. This path was given to Foothills Pipeline Ltd. This company is now part of TransCanada Pipelines Limited.

The pipeline's path goes through the Ibex Valley. It stretches from the Alaska Highway near the Mendenhall area to the northern end of Fish Lake. This project has had different names over the years.
