Iburi Province facts for kids
Iburi Province (胆振国, Iburi-no kuni), also known as Ifuri, was an old region in Japan. It was located on the large northern island of Hokkaidō. Iburi Province existed for a short time, from 1869 until 1882.
Today, the area that was once Iburi Province is very similar to a modern part of Hokkaido called Iburi Subprefecture. It's like the old borders are still "mirrored" in the new ones.

After 1869, the northern island of Japan was officially named Hokkaido. To help organize this large island, new smaller areas were created. Iburi Province was one of these new areas, formed in 1869.
During a time in Japanese history called the Meiji period, many changes happened. The old provinces of Japan, including Iburi, were changed into new areas called prefectures. Maps of Japan were updated in the 1870s to show these new divisions.
Iburi Province and ten other provinces on Hokkaido were later combined. They became part of three larger prefectures: Hakodate Prefecture, Sapporo Prefecture, and Nemuro Prefecture. This change happened in 1882, marking the end of Iburi Province.
