Ichtegem (pronounced "IKH-tuh-khem") is a town in Belgium. It's a type of local government area called a municipality. You can find Ichtegem in the West Flanders province of Belgium. It's about 15 kilometers (9 miles) southwest of the famous city of Bruges.
The municipality of Ichtegem includes three main towns: Ichtegem itself, plus Bekegem and Eernegem. As of January 1, 2006, about 13,423 people lived there. The total area of Ichtegem is about 45.33 square kilometers (17.5 square miles). This means there are about 296 people living in each square kilometer. This is called the population density.
The person in charge of the municipality is called the mayor. The current mayor of Ichtegem is Lieven Cobbaert. He helps make decisions for the town and its people.

Ichtegem's Special Role in Cycling
In 2006, Ichtegem got a special honor. It was named the official Dorp van de Ronde, which means "Town of the Tour." This was for the 90th Tour of Flanders race.
