Iconium was founded a long time ago, in 1879. It got its name from an ancient city called Konya in Turkey. That old city was known as Iconium in Latin. A post office opened in Iconium in 1871. It helped people send and receive mail for many years. The post office closed its doors in 1959.

Even though it's a small place, Iconium is quite famous for one special spot. This place is called "Scott's Iconium Store." It's a very well-known local store. Many Boy Scouts visit this store. They often come here because it's close to the H. Roe Bartle Scout Reservation. This makes the store a popular stop for scouts on their adventures.
