Ida Finney Mackrille (1867 – 1960) was an American leader who worked for women's rights. She was especially active in the movement for women to have the right to vote. People called her the “Woman Orator of the West” because she was such a great speaker.

From 1911 to 1932, Ida was very involved in helping women get the right to vote. After that, she continued to be active in other areas of politics.

Early Life and Family

Ida Finney was born on August 21, 1867. Her hometown was Richmond, Indiana. Her parents were Sara A. Long Finney and Joel J. Finney. She grew up with two sisters.

In 1897, Ida married William R. Mackrille. He worked as a chief deputy clerk for the California State Supreme Court.

Working for Women's Rights

Ida Mackrille was a strong voice for women. She became the first vice-president of the San Francisco Center of the California Civic League. This group worked hard to make sure women had equal rights.

Ida was known as one of the best public speakers in California. She often gave speeches about important issues for women and about politics. She helped with the 1921 Presidential campaign for Warren G. Harding. Later in her life, she was active in the Republican Party in Tulare County.

Later Years

Around 1930, Ida Mackrille bought a vineyard in Woodlake, California. She owned this vineyard until 1960.

Ida Mackrille passed away on June 4, 1960. She was 92 years old. She died at Exeter Memorial Hospital in Exeter, which was close to her home in Woodlake.
