Juan Ignacio Diego Palacios was born on May 18, 1960, in Castro Urdiales, a town in Cantabria, Spain. He is a Spanish politician and a member of the People's Party, often called PP.
He served as the President of Cantabria from 2011 to 2015. Cantabria is one of Spain's seventeen autonomous regions, which are like states or provinces with their own governments.

Becoming President of Cantabria
Ignacio Diego's political party, the PP, won a large victory in the regional elections held on May 22, 2011. They gained an absolute majority in the Parliament of Cantabria. This meant they had more than half of the seats, allowing them to form the government easily.
Because his party won the majority, Ignacio Diego became the President of Cantabria. He held this important position for four years, from June 23, 2011, until July 3, 2015.
Leading the Atlantic Arc Commission
In addition to his role in Cantabria, Ignacio Diego also took on an international leadership position.
What is the Atlantic Arc Commission?
The Atlantic Arc Commission (AAC) is a group of regions located along the Atlantic coast of Europe. It includes 26 political regions from different countries. These countries are France, Ireland, Portugal, Spain, and the United Kingdom. The AAC works together on issues important to these coastal areas.
Diego's Role in the AAC
Ignacio Diego was chosen as the President of the Atlantic Arc Commission. This happened at a conference held from May 31 to June 1, 2012. He and Cantabria led the AAC for a two-year period, from 2012 to 2014. Before him, the French region of Lower Normandy had been the president from 2008 to 2012.
