Ignacio Eizaguirre Arregui (born November 7, 1920 – died September 1, 2013) was a famous Spanish football player. He played as a goalkeeper, which means his job was to stop the other team from scoring goals.

Ignacio played in 381 games in La Liga, which is Spain's top football league. He played for three different teams: Real Sociedad, Valencia, and Osasuna. He also played for the Spanish national team for seven years. He even played for Spain in the 1950 World Cup.

Playing for Football Clubs

Ignacio Eizaguirre was born in San Sebastián, a city in Spain. He joined Real Sociedad in 1936. However, there were no football games in Spain between 1936 and 1939 because of the Spanish Civil War.

He started playing for Real Sociedad in the Segunda División, which is the second-highest football league in Spain. After one season, he moved to Valencia CF, a team in La Liga.

At Valencia, Ignacio became a very successful player. He helped his team win three national championships in his first six years there. He also won the Ricardo Zamora Trophy twice. This award is given to the goalkeeper who has the best goals-to-games ratio in La Liga. After ten years with Valencia, he went back to his first team, Real Sociedad. He played there for another six seasons in the top league.

Ignacio retired from playing football when he was almost 40 years old. His last four seasons were with CA Osasuna. In his final season, he was even named the team's player-coach. This means he played and helped coach the team at the same time.

Playing for Spain

Ignacio Eizaguirre played his first game for the Spanish national team on March 11, 1945. It was a friendly game against Portugal. He played a total of 18 games for his country.

He was chosen to be part of Spain's team for the 1950 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. During the World Cup, he played in two important matches. He played against the United States, which Spain won 3–1. He also played against Sweden, which Spain lost 1–3. Spain finished in fourth place in the tournament that year.
