Igor Graziano Cavalera (born September 4, 1970) is a Brazilian musician. He is famous for being the drummer and a founder of the heavy metal band Sepultura. He started the band in 1984 with his brother, Max Cavalera.

Max left Sepultura in 1996. Igor stayed for ten more years, making him the last original member to leave. Later, the brothers reunited to form a new band called Cavalera Conspiracy.

Igor has also played in other bands like Nailbomb and Strife. As he became more interested in hip-hop, he started working as a DJ. He is part of the DJ duo Mixhell, which he created with his wife, Laima Leyton.

In 2016, Igor joined the band Soulwax for their live shows. He became one of three drummers in their new setup. This live show led to their album From Deewee, released in 2017. Igor has been an official member of Soulwax ever since.

Igor Cavalera's Early Life and Career

Igor Cavalera began playing drums when he was about seven years old. As a child, he enjoyed samba music. However, after seeing the band Queen perform live in 1981, he started listening to rock music.

When Sepultura was formed, Igor was only 13 years old. His brother Max was 14. Sepultura quickly became very successful, giving Igor an early start in music.

Reuniting with His Brother Max

After Max left Sepultura in 1996, the brothers had a difficult relationship. But over time, they became close again. In 2006, Igor joined Max's band Soulfly on stage. They played two old Sepultura songs together. This was the first time they had performed together in ten years.

Igor also played drums for the band Biohazard on their 2001 album Uncivilization. He also performed live with the band Massacration in 2004, using the stage name "El Covero."

Leaving Sepultura and New Projects

In 2006, Igor started spelling his name "Iggor" because he liked how it looked. On January 13, 2006, he announced he was taking a break from Sepultura. This was because his fourth child was born. Later, he decided to leave the band for good. He said it was due to "artistic incompatibility," meaning he wanted to explore different musical styles. Sepultura then found a new drummer.

In 2008, Igor released the album Inflikted with his brother Max. This was their new project called Cavalera Conspiracy.

Igor continued to work on new music. In 2012, he played drums for the entire Strife album Witness a Rebirth. In 2017, he played drums for Soulwax on their album From Deewee and on their live tour.

In 2018, he started a new band called Pet Brick. It is a noise music duo with Wayne Adams.

Igor Cavalera's Drumming Style

Igor Cavalera has been influenced by many famous drummers. Some of his favorites include Roger Meddows Taylor from Queen and Dave Lombardo.

On Sepultura's early albums, his drumming was very loud and fast. This was typical of the thrash metal style in the 1980s. He became very skilled at this style by the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Later, his drumming style became more unique. On the album Chaos A.D. (1993), he added tribal sounds to the songs. For example, the beginning of the song "Territory" shows this new style. He developed this even further on the 1996 album Roots, adding more tribal elements to Sepultura's music.

Throughout his career, Igor has been known as a very powerful drummer. He hits the drums very hard. In later years, he changed his drum set to have fewer cymbals. Critics have praised his drumming, saying his timing and rhythm are perfect.

Igor Cavalera's Personal Life

Igor Cavalera has four children. They were born in 1996, 2000, 2002, and 2006. He has lived in London since 2013.

Igor enjoys collecting toys and football shirts. He also has many hobbies. These include Brazilian jiu-jitsu, kickboxing, snowboarding, and surfing. He also likes drawing and supports the Brazilian football club Palmeiras. He looks up to his father, Graziano Cavalera, as his role model.

In 1996, he started his own fashion brand called "Cavalera."
