Illgau is a small town, also called a municipality, in Switzerland. It is located in the Schwyz District within the canton of Schwyz.

History of Illgau
Illgau was first written about in the year 1370. Back then, its name was spelled Ilgoe.
Geography of Illgau
Illgau covers an area of about 10.9 square kilometers (4.2 square miles). A large part of this land, about 62%, is used for farming. Forests cover another 31.1% of the area.
Only a small part, 2.9%, has buildings or roads. The remaining 4% is made up of things like rivers, glaciers, or mountains. These parts cannot be used for farming or building.
The municipality includes the main village of Illgau. It also has smaller areas called Vorder Oberberg and Hinter Oberberg. Many farm houses are spread out across the land. These farm houses are lived in all year, even those up to about 1,300 meters (4,265 feet) high.
People and Population
Illgau has a population of about 792 people (as of 2007). In recent years, the number of people living here has grown by about 7%.
Most people in Illgau speak German, about 99.2%. A small number of people speak Albanian or Russian.
