Professional Basketball Career
After her successful college career, Imani became a professional basketball player. She has played for teams in the WNBA and overseas.
Playing in the WNBA
In 2016, the Chicago Sky picked Imani 10th overall in the 2016 WNBA draft. This was a big achievement! In her first year, she was one of the best at blocking shots. She was even named to the WNBA All-Rookie Team. In her first playoff game, she set a new record for blocks by a rookie.
Later, in 2017, Imani was traded to the Atlanta Dream. She played for Atlanta in 2017 and 2018. In 2019, she joined the Dallas Wings. She played for four seasons in the WNBA, showing her skills as a strong center.
Playing Overseas
Imani has also played basketball in other countries. In December 2016, she went to Israel to play for Bnot Hertzeliya. She was a key player there, getting many points and rebounds.
She also played in China for Beijing Great Wall in 2017 and for the Liaoning Flying Eagles in 2018. In 2019, she had a short time playing in Turkey for Adana Basketbol. Later that year, she signed with the Perth Lynx in Australia for their 2019–2020 season. More recently, she played for the Shaanxi Red Wolves in China.
Personal Life and Other Interests
Imani McGee-Stafford has a famous family! Her mom, Pamela McGee, was also a WNBA player. Her older half-brother, JaVale McGee, plays in the NBA. She also has a cousin, Jarron Gilbert, who played in the NFL.
In 2018, Imani appeared on the TV show Let's Make a Deal with her grandmother. They won a pair of scooters! In 2020, Imani decided to take a break from the WNBA. She wanted to study law and earn a Juris Doctor degree from Southwestern Law School in Los Angeles. This shows she is interested in more than just basketball.
In March 2023, Imani became a partner in a company called MOORvision Technologies and Ucam. This company makes special cameras that can show what athletes see during games.
