The Imperial River is a cool river located in southwest Florida, United States. It gets its water from the Kehl Canal and nearby marshlands. These areas are just east of the city of Bonita Springs in Lee County.

The river is about 9.3 miles (15.0 km) (15 kilometers) long. It starts near I-75 in an area called the Flint Pen Strand. From there, it flows through downtown Bonita Springs. The Imperial River then reaches its end at the north part of Fishtrap Bay, which is close to the southern end of Estero Bay. Long ago, this river was known as Surveyors Creek. Today, it is part of a special water trail called The Great Calusa Blueway.

Fun Things to Do on the River

The Imperial River offers many fun activities for people who love the outdoors.

Boating and Kayaking

On the east side of the Tamiami Trail (U.S. Route 41) bridge, there is a special place called the Imperial River Boat Ramp. This is where boaters and kayakers can easily launch their boats into the water. It is a great spot to start an adventure on the river.

Fishing and Parks

Right next to the boat ramp, there is a small fishing pier. You can cast your line here and try to catch some fish.

On the west side of the bridge, a new park is being built. This park will be very large, covering about 18.3-acre (7.4 ha) (7.4 hectares). It will have a long boardwalk that stretches for 2,000 feet (610 m) (610 meters) along the river. The park will also include another fishing pier and places to dock boats. There will even be a special viewing platform where you might see a bald eagle's nest!

In the downtown area of Bonita Springs, you can visit Riverside Park. This park also gives you access to the river. It has a bandshell where community events and concerts are often held. It is a popular spot for families and friends to gather.
