Inca (pronounced like EEN-ka) is a lively town located on the beautiful Spanish island of Mallorca. In 2018, about 32,137 people lived in this town. It covers an area of about 58.4 square kilometers.
Inca is an important place for travel on the island. It has a main train station where you can catch trains to different parts of Mallorca. You can go to Palma, which is the capital city of the island. Trains also go to Sa Pobla and Manacor.
This town is also famous for being the home of a well-known footwear company called "Camper". They make shoes and boots that are popular around the world.
Inca's History and Food
Inca is well-known for its many old wine cellars. For a long time, from the 1600s to the 1800s, Inca and its nearby town Binissalem were big producers of wine. However, a plant disease called phylloxera damaged the grapevines. This made the wine industry almost disappear.
After the wine industry slowed down, the people of Inca started new jobs. They began working with leather, making things like shoes and bags. This became a very important industry for the town.
Today, many of the old wine cellars in Inca have been turned into restaurants. These restaurants serve delicious traditional Mallorcan dishes. Some popular foods you might find include sopes mallorquines (a type of soup), tombet (a vegetable dish), and gató d'ametlles (an almond cake). It's a great way to taste the local culture!
Sister Cities Around the World
Inca has special connections with two other cities in different countries. These are called "sister cities." This means they share cultural ties and often have exchange programs.
