Infanta Maria Antonia of Portugal (born November 28, 1862 – died May 14, 1959) was a Portuguese princess. She was the seventh and last child of Miguel I of Portugal and Adelaide of Löwenstein.
Early Life of a Princess
Maria Antonia was born in a place called Bronnbach, in the Grand Duchy of Baden. This was because her father, Infante Miguel, was living in exile. He had been sent away from Portugal by his brother, Pedro I of Brazil. Her father had tried to take the Portuguese throne but lost it during a time called the Liberal Wars.
Marriage and Family Life
On October 15, 1884, Maria Antonia married Robert I, Duke of Parma. They got married at a place called Schloss Fischorn. She was his second wife. Together, they had twelve children.
Maria Antonia became a widow when Robert passed away on November 16, 1907. He died at Villa Pianore. Later in her life, she lived with her daughter Zita while they were in exile. By 1940, Maria Antonia, Zita, and Zita's family were living in Quebec, Canada. They did not have much money at that time.
After World War II ended, Maria Antonia moved to Berg Castle in Luxembourg. She celebrated her 90th birthday there. She passed away in 1959 at the age of 96. She was the last living grandchild of John VI of Portugal. Many of her children and grandchildren also lived for a very long time.
