Ingacom1(Red Rabbit)
1930 photo of the "Red Hare" rock formation

The area where Inkom is today was originally named "Ingacom" by the Shoshone Native American people. This name came from a special rock formation on the east side of town. This rock looked like a "Red Hare" or rabbit.

In 1930, a photo was taken of the "Red Hare" after parts of it, like its "ears," were broken off. The local creek was first called "Rabbit River." Later, its name was changed to Rapid Creek, which is what it's called now. Even today, you can still see the "Red Hare" rock formation.
