Interlachen is a small, unincorporated community in Multnomah County, Oregon, United States. This means it's a group of homes and people living together, but it doesn't have its own official city government. Instead, it's part of the larger county.
Interlachen is located right between two beautiful lakes: Blue Lake and Fairview Lake. You can find it just south of Blue Lake Regional Park and north of the town of Fairview. About 140 property owners live in this community. They have a special group called a homeowners' association (HOA) that started in 1930. This HOA helps manage things for the community. Many people believe it's the oldest HOA in Oregon that has been running continuously!

History of Interlachen
Early Native American History
Around the year 1830, the area where Interlachen is now was an important burial ground. It belonged to the Nichaqwli people. They were a group of Chinookan Native Americans.
Plans for a Country Club
In the mid-1920s, some business people from Portland and Gresham became interested in the Blue Lake and Fairview Lake area. They wanted to build a fancy place called the Fairview Country Club. It would be on the shores of Blue Lake. They hoped to use the lakes for fun activities like boating and swimming.
A newspaper called the Portland News-Telegram reported on these plans. The private club was supposed to have lodges (small cabins), sports areas, and a main club house. However, the country club was never built. This was mainly because of the Great Depression, a time when the economy was very bad. What was planned to be the country club eventually became Blue Lake Regional Park, but it ended up in private hands for a while.
How the Community Grew
There was a road called Ridge Avenue that ran along a natural rock wall. This wall, known as Interlachen Ridge, was about one mile long and separated the two lakes. In the 1920s, people started building small summer cottages along Ridge Avenue. Later, these became permanent homes. Today, this road is called Interlachen Lane.
On December 4, 1930, the residents decided to form a homeowners' association. This group was created to help provide important services to the people living there, like water.
